Here's a quick list of items you should make sure to address when dealing with your question or concern.
Contact the Social Security Administration to find out how much you'll get. You can call 1-800-234-2382, or reach the SSA online at
www.ssa.gov
.
If you aren't contributing to your retirement plan, start today. If you're already participating, consider stretching your contribution to the max.
Consider your asset allocation--your mix of stocks, bonds, and cash. Make sure that it's appropriate for both your short-term and long-term retirement needs.
Investigate other possible sources of retirement income. You might be eligible for a pension from a previous employer, even if you were only there for a short period of time.
Pay down your debt. If you’ve borrowed from your 401(k) plan, pay back what you owe as soon as possible so as not to squander the value of your retirement plan.
